What we offer (the curriculum)
To develop both healthy minds and bodies through a PE curriculum that engages and motivates learners of all abilities. We believe all pupils can find their own pathway to active and healthier lives and aim to give them the skills and knowledge to do so in both a physical, social, and academic capacity. Competition, leadership, and high expectations are used to push and inspire learners of all abilities to be resilient and the very best they can be and lead successful lives.
All students at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 receive two hours of Physical Education every week within the school curriculum.
The emphasis on core Physical Education in Key Stage 4 focuses on sports and activities that may lead to continuing participation in physical activity outside the school environment. At Key Stage 4, we also currently offer two extremely popular examination courses; GCSE Physical Education (AQA) and CNAT National Sport Science Level 2.
Cambridge National Sports Science Level 2
GCSE PE
Theory (60%): This aspect covers a variety of topics including; healthy active lifestyles and its influence in sport, Physical Activity improving mind and body Practical (40%): Practical performances are assessed in four sports from a huge range of sports, along with analysis of performance.
At Key Stage 5 we offer A Level Physical Education (OCR).
A’ Level PE
AS – Anatomy and Physiology, Acquiring movement skills & Socio-cultural Studies.A2 – Historical studies, Sports psychology & Exercise and sports physiology. We also provide a number of leadership awards. At Key Stage 5, we offer the Community Sports Leaders Award.
We also provide a number of leadership awards. At Key Stage 4, we offer the Junior Sports Leaders Award. At Key Stage 5, we offer the Community Sports Leaders Award. Additionally as a department we also offer Level 2 and 3 Community Sports Leaders Award.
