Oundle Festival of Music & Drama 2012
On Thursday 19th and Friday 20th April, after months of preparation three Kingswood students travelled to Oundle School for the annual Oundle Festival of Music and Drama to compete in instrumental and vocal classes.
Three students represented The Kingswood School at the Oundle Festival of Music and Drama 2012:
Malachia Faulkner (Year 12) Piano Grade V class
Jessica Nicholson (Year 9) Musical Theatre (vocal) class
Danielle Louise Reddington (Year 10) Woodwind (clarinet) Grade VIII class
All three students performed superbly and with professionalism. The adjudicator commented specifically on Malachia’s “panache” in his piano playing, and Danielle Louise’s smart appearance and stage presence as an example to other competitors. After they had performed, each competitor received a short masterclass with the adjudicator, working on refining a few bars of music with a focus on interpretation and instrumental technique. This was an inspirational and motivational experience for our young musicians.
Special congratulations go to Danielle Louise, who placed third in her category of Woodwind Grade VIII. A huge achievement! This category had some phenomenal young musicians competing and, for the winner (to give you an idea of the standard of musicianship required), is a qualifying class for the BBC’s Young Musician of the Year competition.
Well done to all involved. We’re looking forward to entering next year already!
