European Day of Languages

There are over 6000 languages spoken in the world, and behind each and every one of them lies a rich and diverse culture. That's what the European Day of Languages (EDL) aims to celebrate - by showing people across Europe how important languages are and what fun can be had learning them.

September 26th is the all important day.  Set up by the Council of Europe, it was first celebrated in 2001 – and it's getting bigger every year, with 45 countries now involved.

On September 27th,  we will celebrate this day at Kingswood.

How do I get involved?

  • We will be running workshops in Japanese, French, Russian, Spanish, Dutch and Italian for Years 8 and 9 who would normally have French or German on 27th September.  Your Language teachers will explain more about how this will work.

  • You can enter our EDL quiz.  We will do a prize draw of entries with the most correct answers and a prize will be awarded to the winner.  The quiz will feature in the newsletter on 17th and 24th September.  Entries can be posted in the box in MFL.  The closing date for entries is September 27th. The winner will be announced on October 1st.
